November 15, 1897

Mertie Marie Ford Worthington
(My M
other)

On this date in 1897, a baby girl, Mertie Marie, was born in Illinois to Jess and Minnie Ford. When she was 30 years old, she had a baby girl. That would be ME!!!! I could never find adequate words to express my love and appreciation to her for all the love she had for me and all the sacrifices she made for me. If you have read the previous postings this week, you have an idea of what a difficult life she had while raising my sister and me, for the most part, alone.

I do not regret growing up as I did. I always had a roof over my head and a bed and pillow. I had food to eat and clothes to wear. I learned to work and not to expect "hand-outs". Because of her desire for my sister and me to have an education, we were able to graduate from high school and have enjoyed comfortable livings as a result of her sacrifices.

My Mother played a very important part in the lives of her 6 grandchildren----3 were mine and 3 were my sisters. She only lived to see 2 of her great grandchildren. She passed away only 3 weeks before my first grandchild was born and I am sorry she did not live to know about Sherlyn, as well as all the other great grandchildren.

I am grateful that she cared enough about my Spiritual life to take me to church where I learned about God and His way to Salvation. I often wonder where my life might have taken me without her guidance and example and that little country church we faithfully attended.

I shall forever be thankful for my Mother and the precious memories I have of her today,

Dortha
