A Lighthouse!!!
I have never seen a lighthoue except in pictures but I think they are very interesting and certainly serve a purpose. Nothing is more comforting on a dark, stormy night than to see a light in the distance that can give us a feeling of direction and safety. I am reminded of the many nights when my Mother, Sister and I were walking from church to our home and the night was so dark, we could not see the road. Since the road was familiar to us and we could see a light in the window of one of our neighbors, we could use that light as a guide and finally safely reach our home. Oh, we might stumble at times and perhaps even fall because of the uneven places on the dirt road but we would again locate the light in the neighbor's window. I can only imagine how the Captian of a ship feels when the ship has lost it's way and then----even as if by magic, there is the light from the lighthouse beaming across the deep waters.
The song Rusty Goodman used to sing, "If it wasn't for the lighthouse, where would this ship be?" has always been a blessing to me. I think of that little country church in our community as being my lighthouse. We kinda take for granted that all communities have churches but that is not at all true, and even if it were true, what if there were no members who were interested in keeping the church doors open? There would be no light beaconing the people to come and learn about God and Salvation. I shall forever be grateful that there was a church building in my community and a group of people who cared enough to support the church and keep the doors open. My life has been centered around the church and I look forward to each service and am so thankful serving God has been the desire of my life. Oh, I have stumbled, that's true, and at times have even fallen but God is always faithful to pick me up, wipe me off and set me on the right path once again. I cannot imagine facing the problems we face in this life without being able to lean on God and live on His promises. He has been so good to me. I am so thankful!!
Love to all,
