Memories of My Mother

I have very fond memories of my Mother. She was a wonderful Mother, strict, yes, but all for my good. She taught me right from wrong, she taught me to be trustworthy, she taught me it was better to obey than to sacrifice. That one I learned a bit slowly and did make a few sacrifices, however, after I realized that she was both judge and jury, I cleaned up my act and was a 'model' child from that day forward!!!!!!!

I remember my Mother always being busy. She had a servants heart and was always ready to give a helping hand when she knew there was a need. She might sit up all night with a sick neighbor; she might fix a meal for someone who was unable to prepare one themselves; she would share what ever she had, be it food or clothing.

Our home was 18 miles from the nearest loaf of sliced bread, therefore, she did a lot of baking and cooking. She was an excellent cook and even though supplies were very limited, she could prepare a very delicious meal. I remember days as we were walking home from school and after having turned the last corner a short distance from our house, we could smell the fresh bread that had just come out of the oven. What a feast my Sister and I would have when we got home!!! She sewed clothes for us almost always using something from others that had been out grown and re-making it for my sister and me. She seldom had a piece of new fabric to use. We still felt well dressed and not at all inferior to other children in our little community. She worked hard to give us as good a life as was possible.

More tomorrow.
