5 words you don't want to hear

"My diorama is due tomorrow."

Baylea is taking after her mother in the procrastination department. She's known about it for a couple weeks, but yesterday morning she told me about it for the first time. It had to showcase a certain habitat. My mind instantly went to one I made as a kid. It was of the ocean and was covered in glossy underwater photos with cutouts of dolphins and fish suspended from the top of the box. Do you remember that one, Mom? I wonder if we still have it somewhere.

Anyway, we decided on a desert theme. We found some pictures of camels, put in a rock with a beanie lizard on top of it, and formed a cactus out of green play-doh. This morning the play-doh was starting to dry out a little, so I hope it holds together for her. I know what you mean, Darla, I hope "we" get a good grade on it!

Kim, Sorry I don't remember the ocean scene - but was there a dinosaur project "we" did similar to the diorama? I guess I should have done a better job at pushing you along and not let you delay getting things done. Oh the joys of parenting and projects- I guess it never ends, just gets passed on to the next generation. Love you, Mom

Yes, I do remember the dinosaur one also. I may have reused the box to make the ocean one later.

I also remember the cat mobile, the woodpecker report, the egyptian wig made with yarn, the hot-air balloon yarnwork on burlap, paper-mache Ziggy . . .you should see if you still have some of that, it could save me some time this year!

I still have Ziggy for sure. The most disgusting project from high school was the cat skeleton reconstruction- in my kitchen, no less. You and Nau painted him green and dressed him up in a top hat and cane. And no, I don't have him- I think you left him at school per my instruction. Gross!!! Great memories, Mom

Oh yeah. It was gross. To get extra credit points, we could use the cat that we had dissected, strip it down to just the skeleton and make a display with it. The teacher told us the easiest way to get the skin off the bones is to boil it. So, Mom comes home and there's this dead cat boiling in water on her stove. I can still remember how it smelled so awful.
